Celebrate Diversity - Tuntenball
Celebrate Diversity organisiert Veranstaltungen für die LGBTIQ-Community wie zum Beispiel Bälle, Partys, Clubbings, gesellige Zusammenkünfte oder andere Veranstaltungen und Förderung von queeren Künster:innen. Das dabei größte und älteste Projekt ist der international bekannte Tuntenball.
Der Tuntenball: Im Herbst 1989 forderte AIDS viele Opfer. Mit Homosexualität beschäftigte sich damals noch das Strafrecht. Man sieht Freunde viel zu früh sterben und wird von der Gesellschaft stigmatisiert. Eine Gruppe schwuler Männer will diese Isolation durchbrechen und plant ein Fest von Schwulen für Schwule und ihre Freund*innen. Dieses Fest soll aber nicht, wie bisher, versteckt in einem Keller stattfinden, sondern als klares Statement für Gleichberechtigung öffentlich wahrnehmbar sein. Nach mehr als 30 Jahre hat sich der Tuntenball von einem kleinen Fest mit 140 Gästen in der Grazer Uni-Mensa zum größten und ältesten Charityevent Europas entwickelt. Doch die Message ist dieselbe: Alle Menschen sind frei und gleich an Würde und Rechten geboren!

Celebrate Diversity organizes events for the LGBTIQ community such as balls, parties, clubbings, social gatherings or other events and promotion of queer artists. The largest and oldest project is the internationally known Tuntenball.
The Tuntenball: In the fall of 1989, AIDS claimed many victims. Homosexuality was still dealt with by the criminal law at that time. One sees friends die much too early and is stigmatized by society. A group of gay men wants to break through this isolation and is planning a festival by gays for gays and their friends. However, this festival should not take place hidden in a cellar, as has been the case up to now, but should be publicly perceptible as a clear statement for equal rights. After more than 30 years, the Tuntenball has developed from a small party with 140 guests in the Graz university refectory to the largest and oldest charity event in Europe. But the message is the same: All people are born free and equal in dignity and rights!
