The critique of globalization in the cultural field
The ideological critique of economic globalization, manifest amongst others in the cultural field, lies at the basis of any concept of transversal resistance. In this section, the question concerning the extent to which the thesis of total globalization has any consistency in art at all will be discussed, in order to then outline the quasi-religious and affirmative function of culture: from the much-praised hybrid subjects of the cultural workers to the semantic and structural transformation of culture into cultural industries or creative industries and the concomitant cuts in public art sponsoring, as well as the tendencies of culturalization in the field of political cultural work.

Practices of local tranversality in the context of migratory cultural work
This section will address transversality as a counter-concept against the new appearance of the “affirmative character of culture” from two different angles: the first one looks at transversality in its unspectacular and local variant, as for example in the cultural work of migrants (and their cooperation with other political and cultural groups), which disrupts the national frame of reference from within, as well as being capable of blurring and moving the boundaries between political and cultural work.

Practices of transnational transversality from within and beyond the cultural field
Finally, real examples of an equally cultural and political resistance against economic globalization will be discussed from the transnational perspective. This section will address instances of artistic/cultural activism that occurred within and at the periphery of the movement of the last three years. A wide range of strategies, from symbolic politics to media guerilla and theatrical interventions will be analyzed and their development from the traditional trajectories of artistic interventions outlined.
